07/30/08 We just got back from our family summer trip. We took the ferry to Prince Rupert, BC again and drove to Seattle area and back again. 4000 road miles plus the ferry roundtrip. We had a good trip. Rie is beginning to enjoy more and more things. We have found a couple of towns and places to stay that we enjoy going back to. Nakusp, BC is a gem. Most of the time we were tent camping. It was a pretty boring wildlife trip. We spent several days at Kerty's family cabin. We also took Rie to the zoo in Seattle. Kerty wanted to go to a lavender festival in Squim. I was able to take in a baseball game. We were also able to spend some time with Judy.
Travel with Rie on the road requires stopping at every playground she sees. She does not miss many. Rie also had fun at several water/spray parks along the way. We stopped at a petting farm as well. Much of our trip was spent exploring small towns and out of the way places.
Rie got out on the boat this month. She had to drive.

I spent most of June with Greg and Joe at the claim. We cut a quad road back into the claim and set up the tents. The dredge did well. We were outfitted for diving this year but did very little. We were luck enough to find a section of the stream running through some decomposed bedrock. We set up there and spent most of our time working that area. The diving gear will be used as we work our way out of that formation. We did not do as well as previous years as far as total weight but the gold we did find was very coarse and was bigger stuff than before. We found one nice nugget that went a quarter ounce. We also found several pickers. All of this makes us anxious for next year and further development.

A Tommy Joseph totem pole was raised today in Sitka for Michio Hoshino. He was a wildlife photographer who was mauled and killed in Sibera by a bear.
