Dawson City to the Haul Road |
The river seems to braid more here. When the river is not braided it shows no current or definition. Cutbanks are more difficult to read and sweepers are more frequent. The cabins and historical sites through this section are less obvious and are not recognized like they are in Canada. There is a ton of history just inside the tree line almost anywhere you put your boat ashore. The tourist boat out of Dawson zooms through here and throws a wake that topples trees from the fragile bank. You can hear the trees smack the water like beaver tails long after the boat full of blue-hairs has sped past.
It is a good thing there was gold found in this stretch because there would be little else to bring me back.
