The Gold Dredge |
We have finally finished the dredge. Easter morning we took it to the local gravel pit and took her through the paces. It did very well. The pump is more tempermental than the older pacer pump we used for the highbanker. Once we had things in place the dredge did very well. I am amazed at the suction that is produced. After all the years of panning and shoveling it is awesome to see and feel so much material being handled with so little man power.
We do not have a suction tip yet so we used a piece of aluminium pipe. It is much longer and larger than what we will have later. We ran 50 pieces of varying sized lead chunks that we had painted. I have yet to clean up the cons to see what percent we recovered but the pieces we did visually see in the sluice were where they should be. The tinkering begins but we are pretty proud of what we have assembled so far. I am looking forward to the trip north.
